چکیده

We extend the notions of evolutionary stability and neutral stability to asymmetric games played between two populations. Assuming that a single strategy is initially played in each population, we consider the simultaneous entry of small proportions of mutants into both populations. The originally played strategy pair is called neutrally stable if the mutants cannot spread. For bimatrix games, neutral stability in the asymmetric population game is found to be a weaker concept than neutral stability in the correponding asymmetric contest. A set of neutrally stable strategy pairs is called evolutionarily stable if for any incumbent strategy pair in the set and for any pair of mutants not in the set at least one mutant strategy is driven out. Evolutionarily stable sets are shown to be equivalent to strict equilibrium sets. Additionally, we study the uniformity of invasion barriers.

Structural symmetry in evolutionary games.

In evolutionary game theory, an important measure of a mutant trait (strategy) is its ability to invade and take over an otherwise-monomorphic population. Typically, one quantifies the success of a mutant strategy via the probability that a randomly occurring mutant will fixate in the population. However, in a structured population, this fixation probability may depend on where the mutant arise...

Evolutionary Stability in Asymmetric Games *

We examine dynamic models of evolutionary selection processes on asymmetric two-player games. Conditions are established under which dynamic selection processes will yield outcomes that respect iterated strict dominance. The addition of a stability requirement ensures that outcomes will be Nash equilibria. However, we find that stable outcomes need not respect weak dominance, and hence need not...

Asymmetric Evolutionary Games

Evolutionary game theory is a powerful framework for studying evolution in populations of interacting individuals. A common assumption in evolutionary game theory is that interactions are symmetric, which means that the players are distinguished by only their strategies. In nature, however, the microscopic interactions between players are nearly always asymmetric due to environmental effects, d...

The replicator equation and other game dynamics.

The replicator equation is the first and most important game dynamics studied in connection with evolutionary game theory. It was originally developed for symmetric games with finitely many strategies. Properties of these dynamics are briefly summarized for this case, including the convergence to and stability of the Nash equilibria and evolutionarily stable strategies. The theory is then exten...

Evolutionary dynamics for bimatrix games: a Hamiltonian system?

We review some properties of the evolutionary dynamics for asymmetric conflicts, give a simplified approach to them, and present some new results on the stability and bifurcations occurring in these conservative systems. In particular, we compare their dynamics to those of Hamiltonian systems.
